Donkeys and Mules

Donkey 101

  • Donkeys require the same care as horses, including dental/farrier/vaccines
  • Donkeys require careful, educated pasture and diet management (examples: dry lot, grazing muzzle, grass hay, etc.)
  • We do not adopt donkeys to be used as livestock guardians- research shows only a small percent actually fulfill this role and in fact, can be aggressive to smaller livestock species
  • We do not adopt donkeys to be housed with other, smaller livestock- this is also something that can be researched and can be devastating to your smaller livestock
  • Donkeys will need to be monitored in our Michigan climate - we blanket our donkeys due to their unique coat and they must not be shaved to protect their ability to regulate their body temperature

Franklin

Name: Franklin

Breed: Donkey

Sex:  Jack

DOB: ~2015

Height: 37 inch

Adoption Fee: $500

Are you looking for a donkey that will fill your soul every single day? Franklin is your guy! He thoroughly enjoys humans and scratches- your will have to pay for extra storage to save every special video, seriously.

Franklin will need someone who can resist his charm in the grocery department and provide a nutrition plan that allows him to happily munch away (and meet his vitamin/mineral needs) while cutting calories to slim down.

He is not currently bonded to a donkey friend but has been asking for someone with thumbs to place an add for the perfect donkey to share a pasture with.

Franklin will need a dry lot as he has spent many years confined to a stall with zero exposure to grass.
