Companion Horses

Belle

Breed:  Rocky Mountain Horse

Sex:  Mare

DOB: 1996

Height: 14.2hh

Color: Black

Adoption Fee: Golden Years Adoption (fee waived)

Belle is a spirited, kind,  Rocky Mountain mare ready for retirement after a long, well-lived life. She gets along well in a herd of mares or geldings,  and can also be comfortably stalled.

Due to her age and limited teeth, Belle needs soaked feed and soaked hay cubes as her primary diet. She also requires Pracend  to manage Cushing’s. With these simple accommodations, she stays comfortable and content.

Belle has a genuinely pleasant disposition and would make a wonderful addition to a calm, caring home looking for a gentle pasture companion.

Desa (Deise Delight)

Breed: Thoroughbred

Sex: Mare

DOB: 1/29/2017

Height: 16.2 hh

Color: Bay
Suitable for: Non Riding Companion
Adoption Fee: $350

Desa is being offered as a Non- Riding Companion –

She has a history of being under saddle, but last fall developed some back sensitivity, which after thorough veterinary work ups, we were unable to find a definite cause for.  She was scoped/treated/cleared of ulcers prior to lameness workups.

She was turned out to pasture all winter, and has not been brought back into work since last fall  She *may* have the potential to be ridden in the future, but we are representing her as a non- riding companion.

She has excellent ground manners, stands quietly for the vet and farrier, and she adores baths, and the boys next door.

In hand, she confidently navigates trail obstacles like tarps, tunnels, and bridges, and enjoys relaxed property walks. She’s a sensitive and responsive mare who tries hard to do the right thing and truly wants to please.

She lives outside with a herd of mares, tends to be higher in the herd, and stalls quietly. She is ready to bond with someone who will help her feel secure and shine in her next chapter. Desa will require front shoes to maintain soundness.

Eden

Sex: Mare

Color: Grey

Suitable For:  Advanced Handler/ Trainer

Year of Birth: 2015

Height: 15.2hh

Adoption Fee: $750

Eden is an incredibly sweet, friendly, and social mare who has made great progress since arriving at the rescue. After spending her life living wild in a field, she came to us with a deep fear of halter pressure and handling. She is now working on giving to halter pressure without overreacting and continues to build confidence with handling.

Eden has become very social in the pasture and is now the first to greet you at the gate. She is easy to catch and halter and has made great progress with picking up her front feet, which can now be easily cleaned. She is also starting to learn to pick up her hind feet.

She is working on leading manners, calmly walking through gates, basic groundwork, and responding appropriately to halter pressure. She stands well for injections, but still requires sedation for the farrier at this stage.

Eden gets along well with a herd of mares and is a kind friend, although she tends to be lower in the pecking order. She is currently being offered as a companion with light maintenance.

Icon

Breed: Quarter Horse

Sex: Gelding

DOB: ~ 2001

Height: 14.3hh

Color: Chestnut
Adoption Fee:  Golden Years Adoption (adoption fee waived)

Non - Riding Companion

Icon is a “horse’s horse”!  He’s an excellent companion and proves himself as a quiet confident leader among the herd.  He’s low drama with equine friends and confident to leave the pasture on his own.  He can live outside, and stalls nicely as well.  Although he’s very independent and confident, he responds nicely to reassurance from his handler if he ever gets uncertain.

Are you a handler with a soft heart who is comfortable with setting boundaries?  The ability to read and stay in tune with a horses body language?

Spend some time getting to know him and you clearly understand and appreciate his signals.    Sometimes he signals,  "scratch me right here" or "I'm done with grooming today- thank you"

While independent, he can be so sweet and affectionate, rushing to the gate to greet you, usually excited for a walk, a little grooming and grazing.  Otherwise, he’s mostly happy to go with the flow with his herd.

Icon needs soaked feed to maintain his handsome physique, but still enjoys grazing & hay.  Daily nsaids keep him pasture comfortable (he has some age- appropriate arthritis)

Come meet him & you'll fall under his spell!

Kit-Kat - Medical Hold

Breed: Thoroughbred

Sex:  Mare

DOB:  2/25/2018

Height: 16.2 hh

Color: Bay

Fee: $350

Non-Riding Companion

Meet Kit-Kat, a truly sweet and affectionate mare who loves people and thrives on attention. She is confident, curious, and enjoys exploring on trail walks, going over obstacles, and being part of whatever is happening around her. Kit-Kat loves baths, grooming, and spending time with her humans, making her a wonderful companion horse.

After successfully undergoing surgery for ovarian cysts, Kit-Kat has returned to her kind and friendly self. As a result, she no longer experiences heat cycles and can comfortably live in a gelding herd or with other horses. She is social, does well in a herd environment, trailers well, ties, and stalls quietly.

Due to medical reasons, Kit-Kat is being placed as a non-riding companion horse. She would be an excellent match for someone looking for a loving equine partner to enjoy on the ground. She is happiest being involved in daily activities, receiving attention, and spending time with her people.

Lymric

Breed: Standardbred

Sex: Mare

Age: 18

Height: 16 HH

Color: Bay

Adoption Fee: $350

Meet Lymric ✨

Lymric is an 18-year-old Standardbred mare who knows exactly who she is. Pretty, lovely, and very much a boss mare, she carries herself with confidence and leads her herd with ease. She lives well with other mares and naturally takes on the role of leader.

After a long life spent in a herd and raising foals, Lymric is ready for her next chapter. She’s looking for a home where she can be a companion, relive her cart days or be trained under saddle.  She is spirited and has a strong personality, but beneath that confidence is a truly kind and very nice horse.

Lymric isn’t looking to fade into the background — she’s looking for her person. Someone who appreciates a horse with opinions, presence, and heart, and who will love her for exactly who she is. In return, she offers loyalty, character, and the unmistakable bond that comes from earning the trust of a strong-minded horse.

Misty (Peppers Bad Chick) Adopted!!

Breed: Quarter Horse

Sex: Mare

Age: 20

Height: ~15.2 HH

Color: Grey

Suitable For: Companion, Light Pony Rides

Adoption Fee: $350

Misty is a sweet, personable, and incredibly pretty 20-year-old fleabitten grey mare who charms everyone she meets. She arrived with us as a devoted mama with her foal at her side, who has since been successfully weaned. Now, Misty is enjoying her well-earned “me time” and is thriving in a peaceful herd of mares.

Misty does well both stalled and living outside with appropriate shelter, and she settles easily into herd life. While she is very kind and people-oriented, Misty does best with a confident, consistent handler, as she can occasionally be reactive to certain situations. With calm, clear handling, she is a lovely partner to work around.

Misty is being offered as a companion horse with potential to handle some limited pony rides. She came to us with very poor feet, but with consistent, quality farrier care and front shoes, shes quite comfortable.

With proper care, she will make a wonderful, gentle addition to any herd and a steady companion for another horse in need of a friend.  She should not be on lush grass pasture.

If you’re looking for a kind, striking mare, Misty may be the perfect match.

Year: 2007

Color: Gray

Adoption Fee: $750

Serafina is a gorgeous grey Arabian mare who her grooms absolutely adore. She is a kind mare who has made progress since arriving, but she will need continued training, patience, and confidence-building in her new home. She can be reactive to certain things and was very guarded when she first arrived. She is also head shy, and trailering is an area that will need continued work.

Serafina currently lives calmly in a herd of mares and could be adopted as either a companion or a project. She has a reported history of being ridden, but we have not evaluated her under saddle yet.

Serafina has plenty of potential and a sweet personality
