Companion Horses
Abby
Sex: Mare

Breed: Gaited/grade
DOB: 2007

Non- Riding companion
Adoption Fee: $350
Abby – Beautiful, Gentle, and Full of Heart
With her striking grulla coloring and kind expression, Abby is the type of mare who effortlessly captures attention. Recently returned after spending the past three years as a cherished companion horse, she is now looking for her next forever home.
Abby is a non-riding companion mare with a sweet, calm personality. One of her volunteer grooms, who was new to horse care, described her as "a sweet girl with a calm personality" who was patient and forgiving while they learned. Abby walks nicely on a lead, stands quietly for grooming, and is the kind of horse that helps build confidence in the people around her.
She has a mild neurological-type movement in her hind end that has remained stable for at least the past three years. It doesn't prevent her from receiving routine care, including farrier work and handling. In fact, it simply adds a little extra swagger to her step and makes her even more memorable.
Overall, Abby is a sweet and gentle girl who enjoys attention, companionship, and being part of a herd. She has been pastured with mares, geldings and mules in the past. She would be an excellent match for someone looking for a beautiful pasture companion, a friend for another horse, or simply a mare to love and spend time with.
Anyone would be lucky to meet Abby—and even luckier to call her their own.
Bandit

Height: 16.1hh
Color:
Chestnut
Adoption Fee: $350 (Eligible for waived companion adoption fee
Bandit – A Loyal Old Soul Looking for His Person
At 27 years young, Bandit is proof that age is just a number. This handsome Quarter Horse gelding spent virtually his entire life with a single mare before arriving at Horse Haven. Since then, he has adapted to life in a gelding herd, but one thing remains true—relationships mean everything to Bandit.
Bandit is what many would call an "old soul." He greets visitors at the gate, keeps a watchful eye on farm activities, and is always curious about what his pasture mates are doing. He genuinely wants to connect and build trust with his people, though he tends to form deep bonds slowly and thoughtfully.
His grooms describe him as sweet, intelligent, and eager to please. One groom called him "the ultimate gelding"—a horse who wants to do right by his handler and enjoys learning new things. Another noted that he fully relaxes into grooming sessions and especially enjoys having his ears rubbed, inside and out.
Bandit does have some age-related aches and pains and receives daily NSAIDs along with soaked feed, and is a slightly picky eater, though he can still happily graze and enjoy hay alongside his friends. As a senior horse, he appreciates a home that understands and supports his comfort needs.
Bandit seems to enjoy light ground work to help him focus, build confidence, and settle his busy mind, a little mental engagement and patient leadership often help him relax and reconnect with his handler.
Bandit responds best to gentle, firm, and consistent guidance. He is not a horse who thrives under pressure, but rather one who blossoms when trust is earned. As his confidence in a person grows, so does his willingness to focus, cooperate, and form a lasting partnership.
If you're looking for a companion horse with personality, intelligence, and a heart full of loyalty, Bandit may be your perfect match. He may take a little time to let you into his circle, but once you're there, you'll have a devoted friend for life.

Dolly-Sue
Breed: American Paint Horse
Sex: Mare
Age: 13
Height: 14.0hh
Color: Chestnut Paint
Suitable for: Non Riding Companion
Experienced Handler/Trainer
Adoption Fee: $350
Painted to Perfection — and Perfectly Happy to Stay in the Pasture
Meet Dolly-Sue, a 13-year-old, 14 hh pony paint mare who’s absolutely gorgeous and knows it… but don’t expect her to do much more than look fabulous while standing in a field. If your dream horse is one you never have to take out of the pasture, congratulations — your search is over.
Dolly-Sue is a social butterfly who loves attention, scratches, and hanging out with her herd (and yes, she’s even lived with cows — she’s very open-minded ). She’ll greet you at the gate, pose for photos, and soak up all the love... as long as things stay calm. She bonds strongly to other horses and gains confidence (and the resulting better behavior) with them close by.
Here’s the deal: Dolly-Sue is a great pasture companion, not a project or performance horse. She can bolt in stressful situations — and not like, a dainty “oopsie” trot-off… more like, “new personal best in the 100m dash.” So she’s not a match for kids, beginners, or showing.
But if you want a sweet, funny, and drama-free mare who’ll keep the whole herd happy and charm every human she meets, Dolly-Sue is your girl. She gets along with everyone — horses, cows, people, she’s even good for farrier & vet and she’ll happily supervise pasture life like the pretty little queen she is.
Due to her persistent ability to exit the situation, along with some soundness issues under saddle, she is being adopted as a non- riding companion only

Eden
Sex: Mare
Color: Grey
Suitable For: Advanced Handler/ Trainer
Year of Birth: 2009
Height: 15.2hh
Eden is an incredibly lovely, kind, and social mare who truly wants to connect with people. After spending her entire life living wild in a field, she arrived at the rescue with a deep fear of halter pressure and would dramatically flip over when even light pressure was applied.
Thanks to a dedicated training program, Eden is starting to make progress. She can now be clipped to a lead, is learning to walk on it in the pasture, and is beginning to pick up her feet.
Eden is very much a project and will require an experienced, patient home committed to continuing her training journey. With consistency and understanding, she has all the potential to become a confident, well-rounded equine partner.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue her training, complete her full medical evaluation, and help her grow into a great equine citizen.
Elsa
Sex: Mare
Color: Flea-Bitten Grey
DOB : ~ 1/1/2009
Height: 15 hands
Adoption Fee: $350
Gentle • Soulful • Healing Presence
Some horses leave an impression on your heart the moment you meet them — Elsa is one of those rare souls.
Elsa is Non- Rideable companion due to previous injury but is pasture sound without maintenance.
Elsa is a kind, loving mare with a quiet presence that brings an overwhelming sense of peace and comfort to those around her. She forms connections quickly, greeting familiar faces warmly in the pasture and melting into affection during grooming sessions. If you are lucky, she may even rest her head softly on your shoulder while soaking in the attention.
She absolutely adores being groomed and handled, standing quietly without walking off, reacting calmly to fly spray, hoof handling, ear touching, and everyday care. Elsa is gentle, respectful, and easy to work around, making her a joy to spend time with.
Within the herd, Elsa appears drama-free and carries herself as a calm, quiet leader. While she can occasionally become hesitant or spirited in unfamiliar situations, she stays connected with her handler and settles quickly when given patience, reassurance, and time to process. She expresses herself honestly, but never in an aggressive or pushy manner.
Elsa has a reported history of cribbing, but we removed the crib collar upon arrival (she's in a 4 board wood fence with a single strand of hot wire not cribbed while with us )
She's pastured outside 24/7 but can be stalled at night as well
Elsa's soulful eyes, calm nature, and loving spirit make her truly unforgettable. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will gain a very special companion.

Spend some time getting to know him and you clearly understand and appreciate his signals. Sometimes he signals, "scratch me right here" or "I'm done with grooming today- thank you"
While independent, he can be so sweet and affectionate, rushing to the gate to greet you, usually excited for a walk, a little grooming and grazing. Otherwise, he’s mostly happy to go with the flow with his herd.
Icon needs soaked feed to maintain his handsome physique, but still enjoys grazing & hay. Daily nsaids keep him pasture comfortable (he has some age- appropriate arthritis)
