Horses' Haven Rehabilitation Program
Horses’ Haven believes that matching the right horse with the right person creates safe, long-term adoptions and enables improvements across the broader spectrum of all equine welfare issues. This is directly in line with its partnership with The Right Horse Initiative, a program of the ASPCA. The Horses’ Haven Rehabilitation Program was created with that philosophy in mind, as well as its Mission: To Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain & Re-Home At-Risk Equine.

Volunteers that regularly work a dedicated shift are eligible to join the rehabilitation program.  There are two branches of the program, the Groom Program and the Rehab Team, described in further detail below.

The Groom Program
  • In the Horses’ Haven Groom Program, each horse is assigned a Groom, who is trained by a Senior Groom on specific training points of horse handling skill sets. These skills are intended to progressively challenge the horse and groom, within their capabilities, and helps to strengthen horse-human communication, ultimately helping to bring the horse one step closer to being appropriate and ready for a right-fit adoption. If you come to the Groom Team with equine experience, this process will simply reinforce Horses’ Haven required techniques and strategies to horse handling and groom care.

The Rehab Team
  • Volunteers with extensive knowledge and experience in riding and training Dressage horses may be eligible to join the Rehab Team. Our rideable horses come to the farm with all different levels of training and the Rehab Team is responsible for regularly exercising  and training our rideable horses.

Another way to become involved with Horses' Haven is to join the Foster to Train Program.  Some of our equine residents may benefit from more extensive training offsite.
