ASHLEY
Breed: Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Sex: Mare Foaled: 3/27/1999 Age: 23 Height: ~15hh
Suitable for: Under evaluation for riding, companion
Adoption Fee: $500
Ashley is a double registered Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse/Rocky Mountain Horse. She was broke to ride when she was around 3 years old but hasn't been ridden for most of her life. We have started bringing her up to the barn to work and she happily accepts tack and a rider. Ashley has a lot more whoa than go and prefers to stick with a slow walk but will step it up to her second gait when asked. She is gaited and it is very comfortable and smooth. We would say that she is beginner safe, all she needs is a little refresher course in steering. This lovely lady would do best in a situation where she is only lightly ridden a few days a week and would make a great companion horse to hop up on for an occasional casual ride around the property. Ashley is very sweet and mellow, she absolutely loves attention and will fall asleep while you groom her. She has been very easy to handle, loads well in the trailer and is good for the farrier and vet. In the pasture she gets along with everyone, has lived with mares and geldings and is used to living outside 24/7. She has Cushing's and heaves but this doesn't hold her back from being a wonderful mare with such great qualities. She will just need a loving family who can provide her with a dry lot or grazing management and medication so that she can be happy and healthy and make lots of special memories with her family for years to come.

COVER PRICE
Breed: Thoroughbred Sex: Gelding Foaled: 4/14/2007 Age: 15 Height: 15.3hh
Suitable for: Intermediate rider, walk/trot/canter
Adoption Fee: $1500
After a successful racing career down in Florida, Cover Price was sent up north for retraining in Maryland. He did very well there, was ready for adoption and came to Horses' Haven to find a wonderful home. He lunges well in both directions, stands nicely for mounting and gets straight to business under saddle, however, he can be a little grumpy for grooming and tacking. Cover Price is a non-sweater, which is the reason why he traveled up north for training and adoption. Our northern climate has been good for him and we have noticed that he is able to sweat during his rides. Cover Price really loves the ladies and is much more relaxed when not pastured next to or with mares. He is currently stalled at night with daily turnout and seems to like this routine. He is a dedicated cribber and will crib on anything, including the hanging buckets in his stall. His cribbing collar works wonders to reduce this behavior. He stands well for vet, farrier and bathing. Due to his ground manners and energy he is best suited for an intermediate handler/rider who is able to be consistent with him on the ground and under saddle.

CRYSTAL
Breed: Mustang Sex: Mare Foaled: 2011 Age: 11 Height: 14.3hh
Suitable for: Experienced rider or trainer, walk/trot/canter
Adoption Fee: $1000
This darling mare is cute as a button! Although she can be a little skittish she tries really hard and is growing in her confidence daily. She can be tricky to catch at times but with a little patience and a few cookies she will approach to be caught. We were told she has been ridden in the past but she needs to build a little confidence on the ground with us before we take the next step of hopping on. She lunges well to the left but still needs work going to the right as she is unsure about having a handler on her right side. We tested with tack and she was fine with that. Crystal is easy to lead, but tends to cling closely to the handler when she gets nervous. She also will need work on lifting her feet, especially the hinds and requires sedation for the farrier until she can work through this. Overall she is making improvements every time she comes up to the barn. With a special person who is calm and patient we are sure Crystal will grow into a wonderful riding partner!

JAYJAY
Breed: Quarter Horse/Paint Sex: Mare Foaled: 2007 Age: 15 Height: 14.1hh
Suitable for: Under evaluation
Adoption Fee: $1000
JayJay was ridden on the trails when she was younger but has been a pasture puff for the last 7 years. This mare is full of spunk and will likely require a more experienced rider. On the ground she appears to have had some showmanship training in her past. She lunges both directions, has a lot of energy and listens to cues and body language well. JayJay has mild navicular changes so corrective shoes are required to help her maintain soundness. She will be under evaluation for riding soon.

JONESY BOY
Breed: Thoroughbred Sex: Gelding Foaled: 4/5/2009 Age: 13 Height: 16.3hh
Suitable for: Intermediate rider/handler, walk/trot/canter flatwork only
Adoption Fee: $1000
Jonesy Boy is an off track thoroughbred whose sire is the famous Smarty Jones. He is sound for walk, trot and canter but has some mild arthritic changes in his front left pastern and shivers, mainly evident when you pick up his right hind hoof. This makes him a better candidate for flatwork only and he does need front shoes to support those big thoroughbred feet of his. This quirky guy can get a little grumpy during the whole grooming and tacking process and occasionally during feed time but is coming around as we set boundaries and he learns that people can be patient and kind. Crabby behavior aside, he is very snuggly and sweet with those he works closely with. He is quite lazy under saddle, clearly taking retirement from the track seriously and may just be the perfect husband horse, time will tell. In the pasture he can be very playful and loves a good game of halter tag, he is also very good at avoiding herd drama. He stands nicely for vet and farrier if the handler sets clear boundaries. Jonesy loads and travels well and is not reactive to all the busy farm noises and equipment. Currently he is stalled at night with daily turnout, he has also lived outside 24/7 and is happy with either. This tall handsome gelding has a heart of gold, he just needs that special person to come along and fall in love with him, quirks and all!

LETTIE
Breed: Paso Fino/Tennessee Walker Sex: Mare Foaled: 2017 Age: 5 Height: 14hh
Suitable for: Experienced rider or trainer
Adoption Fee: $800
Lettie is a gaited Paso Fino/Tennessee Walker cross that had been started under saddle but was still very green. We are still learning about her and will be evaluating her soon to see where her training is at. Likely she will need a small experienced rider or trainer who can finish her. She has lived with both mares and geldings in the past. She has no problem letting her feelings be known and will push the more timid horses around during feed time. At times she can be difficult to catch but with patience this is improving. Lettie will be a fun project for a small experienced rider!
